Windridge’s The Life of Riley

Excerpts from letter –

First of all, Riley is an amazing dog, lots of personality.

I don't remember if I already said this but . . .I consider myself a "reasonable" dog owner, meaning that I let a dog be a dog.  I don't consider him a person etc.   In the beginning when I was considering a Kuvasz all I heard and read kept saying that a Kuvasz is not like any other dog etc.  I don't think I really believed it back then but now I understand.  Their sensitivity, aloofness, they are so intelligent but yet at the same time take longer to train than a lab or a golden etc. the fact that they think about things before responding to a command.  That all took a little time and patience to get use to.  There are some people (like you told me) who should get another breed because of their lifestyle or whatever.   Anyway I am really enjoying Riley and I will be looking for another one at some point in the future.

Riley and “Dad” Mark just finished a week long Appalachian Trail hike.  Although it was only Riley’s third backpacking trip, when it came to things like trail manners, being around strangers, people who were eating on the ground and the mileage we were hiking – 10-13 miles per day – I was truly astounded at how well he did at everything. Riley was super well behaved and he was affectionate with everyone, even the guys he had not seen since last year, but at the same time he didn’t bother anyone.

For the first year or so I would have said that he was a one-man dog. But recently he has really bonded to a couple of close friends and to my youngest son.

Jeremiah  “Jere”

Our Jere is doing great. We love him to pieces!

He's been doing his job well around here. Just need to keep telling him the skunk that comes up the trail is not worthy of barking at and getting it all scared !

Since I work from home and have clients that come to the house, he is great at barking when they are coming up the drive, then when I go out and tell him it's ok he goes into Happy Dawg mode.

I was here when the meter reader guy came once, Jere barked at him but kept a decent distance from him then when I went out there you could see his demeanor ease.

Essentially he has been everything that we were hoping to get. He has a beautiful curly coat, handsome face and a guard dog that also knows how to put on the charm!
